Ahhh, Sweet Lauren! She’s a Caney Creek High School Senior who spent a couple years at Willis High School just north of Conroe, TX as well, so she was very familiar with several of my Senior clients and the area. We had a blast during our session. I have as strict policy that if it’s not fun, it’s not worth doing, so we make every session as fun as possible. This one, I left with my sides hurting from laughing so hard. Lauren MASTERED the beautiful all knowing smirk and her smile was just contagious!

Look… I’m blogging! Aren’t you proud? I know, I know…it’s been a while (almost a year) and I always say “this time I’m going to keep up with it” but lets be realistic. The poor blog becomes neglected when things get BUSY around here, but I love it so much, I’m not willing to let it go. So, alas… here we go again!

Meet Taylor! She came to Huntsville for her Senior Portrait Session from Centerville HS. We hit up so many locations, I lost track and even though she kept saying she didn’t “do” serious faces… she pulled them off quite well.

What is Off Camera Flash… | The Woodlands, TX Senior Photographer

So, since introducing off camera flash (OCF) on my facebook page, I have had several people email me asking what exactly the difference is in portraits. The bottom line of it…OCF is simply moving studio lighting outdoors. When done properly, OCF delivers a little punch of light, which in turn creates a little drama in the portrait. Here’s a side by side example…

Do you notice the difference? The available/natural light portrait is beautiful, but the OCF version is much more dramatic! OCF is simply another photographic technique that I have added to my arsenal. Will I use OCF on every image? ABSOLUTELY NOT, I doubt I will even use OCF for every session outdoors. I still love natural light and everything it has to offer, OCF just gives me freedom!Â It allows me to shoot in conditions that I wouldn’t be able to before.Â It alls me to add drama when necessary to a portrait and most of all, it allows me to take my photography to that next level.Â

Little Miss Morgan….what a DREAM!Â She went out like a champ and let me position her in the perfect pose without too much fussing.Â To top it off, she is the daughter of some of my favorite clients EVER.Â I first met them at the newborn session for their first daughter and have seen them so many times over the last few years that I really consider them personal friends now.Â

Little Lacey was sooo sweet…..I had the honor of doing her mom’s maternity session also.Â The whole session just radiated love and showed what true studio photography is all about.Â I absolutely adore getting outside andÂ shooting in natural light, but I also truly believe that studio lighting and sessions have their place in the photography world. Â There is something to be said for a Maternity sessionÂ that is intimate, dramatic andÂ gorgeous…and that is all thanks to being in the Huntsville studio, the privacy it affords and perfectly placed lighting.Â Natural light is a beautiful thing, but it can’t always be modified to create the look we want.

Bernice meets Eleanor… | Huntsville, Texas Photographers

Many of you have already met Bernice.Â Bernice has a following all her own.Â I can’t even count how many times I’ve had a client say…”there is that famous chair”:

Bernice has gone all over Huntsville, Conroe, The Woodlands even as far as College Station with me.Â She’s been good to me and clients love her.Â They request her and more than once I have been identified pulling up to the session by a client just by seeing her in the back of the truck.Â For those of you thinking this is a eulogy for old Bernice, don’t worry it’s not.Â She’s still sitting in the studio, in perfect condition,Â waiting for her next trip around town.Â She does, however, have some serious competition…. MEET ELEANOR:

I stumbled upon this little gem one day after having lunch at a local restaurant and boutique.Â I saw her, but left her there, thinking…gawwww, do I really need another chair?!?! Â (Bernice and Eleanor aren’t the only 2 in the family, they are just the most used.) Â She didn’t leave my mind though.Â Something made me drive back to the boutique right before this session just to see if she was still there….and she was!Â Boy am I glad I did.Â She photographs beautifully.Â Now I have to figure out where to put her.Â I’m running out of room.

Sara – 2011 Madisonville HS Senior | Madisonville TX Photographer

This day was absolutely BEAUTIFUL!Â The sun was out in full force, but the temp stayed in the low 80′s. Sara came to me all the way from the thriving metropolis of Madisonville, which for those of you not from around these parts, is about 20 minutes north of Huntsville….for those ofÂ you going “okay, ummm…where is Huntsville”.. it’s a small town in East Texas.Â This wasÂ a really fun, low key kind of session.Â Sara was very relaxed and up for anything.Â There were , of course, a few hiccups along the way.Â Amazingly enough I did NOT step in an ant pile or scale a fence, I did almost fall down in the middle of the street andÂ poor Sara lost her keys at one point.Â BIG thanks to the nice lady from Dr. Roche’s office that held on to them until we came back! Overall, it was a great session….lots of laughs, a little drama and of course, beautiful images…

Alyssa – 2011 Willis High School Senior | Huntsville, TX Senior Portraits

In case you haven’t noticed, it’s senior season! I met up with Alyssa on the Huntsville square and we explored just about every nook in town.Â We spent most of the time laughing at each other,Â fighting the wind and trying to look up into the sun (which by the way, Alyssa can’t…. well, she can, but it results quite an angry frown. Hahaha!)Â I’m pretty sure I wore her out though, she was yawning by the end of the session and I can tell you my feet were KILLING me!

Well…lets start out with the bloopers.Â Yep, another ant bed encounter for me.Â You would think after almost 7 years in business I would learn to look out for those things, but NOPE!

This is Cortney and she is a senior at Willis High School.Â She traveled up to see me and let me tell you, we went EVERYWHERE!! We started out in Huntsville, then went up to Trinity, then came all the way back and went North, just for her to turn around and travel South to get home.Â It was a whirlwind, but we had a great time.Â For those that don’t know, my Senior sessions are usually pretty full of activities.Â I don’t stay in one place long and Cortney figured that out FAST.Â

Okay…so the blog is back.Â Let’s hope that I can keep up with it this time.Â As most of you know, I simply run out of minutes in the day to do everything and the blog is the one that suffers.Â Oh, the blog, the poor red-headed stepchild in the family….I promise to TRY to treat you better!

That being said…Meet Karli!Â She’s irony smothered inÂ oxymoron and wrapped up in contradiction and I LOVE that about her.Â She’s gorgeous but doesn’t know it, she’s spunky but quiet, and she’s brilliant but humble.Â I learned a few things about myself from her too, like for example, a 18 year old can climb a fence much faster and with so much more graceÂ than a 34 year old.Â I still have the bruises to prove it.
